Adkins, Jennifer
Jenny is a seasoned environmental professional with over a decade of experience at MAD Scientist Associates, where she serves as the Business Development and Marketing Director. In this role, she leads strategic outreach initiatives while also conducting botanical surveys, overseeing wetland and reforestation projects, and developing educational programs. A certified Professional Wetland Scientist with the Society of Wetland Scientists, Jenny also holds credentials in wetland delineation and ORAM assessment. She earned her B.S. in Biology and M.Ed. from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

As someone who believes in the power of storytelling, Shannon began sharing her experiences navigating nature and vision loss on her website, The Blind Naturalist, in October 2021. Kate Connell (she/her) is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional and a passionate advocate for equity in aquatics and recreation. She has a track record of implementing inclusive programs, policies, and personnel practices in her prior role as a municipal program supervisor in Iowa City, where she was a graduate of the University of Iowa. Through her work at Equitable Aquatics, Kate has become a sought after national speaker on diversity and leadership and has presented educational sessions at dozens of national and state level association conferences. Kate bridges her experience as a leader in the aquatic industry with her role as the Senior Manager of Sales and Strategic Partnerships to support HydroApps customers. She believes that leveraging tools and techniques to streamline operations and risk management frees up aquatic professionals to focus on their workplace passions and further their impact. She serves on the Association of Aquatic Professional Board, is the chair of the DEIJ committee and co-chair of the education committee. Erin Duffee has been in the parks and recreation field since 2004 serving in the central Ohio area for the City of Hilliard, City of Dublin, and the City of Grove City. Prior to working in the parks and recreation field, Erin began her career working for the Student Conservation Association, a national nonprofit association, building trails in state parks and teaching environmental education to high school students. Erin found her calling for the parks and recreation field while serving in her first public service position with the City of Grove City where she motivated and led professionals in the before school, after school, and summer childcare setting for 9 years. She transitioned her career to the City of Dublin to oversee summer day camps, preschool, and youth programming, and within two years was promoted to provide oversight for the adult, older adults, nature education, and adaptive programming teams for 6 additional years. Erin transitioned to the City of Hilliard in June, 2020 and is currently serving as Deputy Director.

Eppink, Nathan
For nearly 25 years, Nate has dedicated his career to making lives better through parks and recreation. He joined Medina County Park District (MCPD) and became its director in 2018 following time with Cleveland Metroparks, Geauga Park District, and Summit Metro Parks. Nate describes his role as director of MCPD as the best job in Northeast Ohio. Since 2019, MCPD has grown by more than 1,800 acres, opened several new parks and preserves, and secured more than $15 million in grants for land acquisition, restoration, and construction. Nate has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from Cleveland State University, is a two-term former board member of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, is an ex-officio trustee of Friends of Medina County Parks, and a member of the Ohio Public Works Commission’s District 9 Natural Resources Assistance Council. He lives on a hobby farm in Sharon Township, Medina County, with his wife and three children.

FallCreek, Stephanie
Dr. Stephanie FallCreek has been active in public service for most of her 50 year career. She served in California as Director of the Albany Senior Center (Part of the Parks and Recreation Department) in California before joining the faculty of the School of Social Welfare at the University of Washington, Seattle, where she led the Wallingford Wellness Project, a pioneering Health Promotion program funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging. Later, in New Mexico after serving four years as faculty at New Mexico State University, she was appointed to lead the New Mexico State Agency on Aging for four years, and subsequently served in the State Department of Health before coming to Ohio where she led Fairhill Partners as President and CEO for 30 years, bringing multiple evidence-based programs to Northeast Ohio. She retired from Fairhill in 2022. She now does consulting, including currently working with the Ohio State University College of School of Social Work on an intergenerational mentoring project: Bridge2Health. She is a lifetime Director of Greater Cleveland Volunteers, serves as the Mayor's appointee to the Senior Transportation Connection, and is the Chairperson of the Investment Committee of First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland. Stephanie visits New Mexico regularly but lives in Cleveland, Ohio in a multigenerational household (including one son, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson) with her husband. She visits their six children and 13 grandchildren as often as she can but calls Cleveland home.

Annemarie started her aquatics career as a 15-year-old lifeguard in 1977 at the local YMCA. In 1994, She tried to leave aquatics however, was rescued from an office career and stay at home mother duties, where she worked as a Lifeguard and later Aquatics Director of 6 pools and a spray park, for the City of Euclid. She was the Aquatics director for 11 years. She downsized in 2016 and worked for the local school district's indoor aquatics facility and downsized again in 2021 to Parkview Pool, as the Aquatics Supervisor at the outdoor municipal pool of Mayfield Village. Annemarie’s management style is one part educator, one part counselor, and one part parent. She enjoys working with lifeguards, as it keeps her young. She has a B.A. from Cleveland State University and currently holds the following certifications: CPRP, WSIT, LGIT, CPO, and YSI.

Matthew Freeby brings extensive experience in designing and constructing various building types and structures. Responsible for large project development, he has managed projects ranging from $1 million to $100 million, from conceptual planning to construction management. Matt is relied upon to define project scope, goals and deliverables that support WTI’s business goals in collaboration with senior management. He helps to determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle. A registered Architect in 22 states and a NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator, Mr. Freeby is a LEED Accredited Professional with an advanced depth of knowledge in green building practices and sustainable aquatic design and operations. In 2013, Roberta became a volunteer with Medina County Park District assisting with school programs, special events, and baking. Her current position is Sexton for Granger Township. Roberta credits her career success to having patience, which is emitted through her joyful demeanor & reliable volunteer service for the park district to this day. Roberta was an elementary school secretary for several years, before moving into the position of Executive Assistant for the Western Reserve Masonic Community, one of Medina Counties largest senior living populations, which she has since retired from. Roberta is very involved in her church and historical society, holding leadership roles for the church bazaar and community tree lighting. In her free time, she likes to read 2-3 books per week, and ‘jams’ making 375 jars of various flavors to share and sell. All this is in addition to her 40-minute walk each day and following the Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers!

Tim Heyl has dedicated over 25 years to the Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC), starting his career in 1996 as a lifeguard at one of CRC’s indoor pools. This initial role sparked a deep commitment to public service, community connections, and relationship building. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Tim was offered a full-time position with CRC, working directly in numerous neighborhood recreation centers. His extensive operational experience across every level of recreation center management includes promoting into a regional manager position in 2013 at the CRC Administrative Office. In 2017, he took over and successfully managed CRC’s “Youth to Work” Program, which provided training and employment for over 600 teenagers and earned the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association’s highest honor, the Governor’s Award. In addition to his deep operational background, Tim has held significant administrative and leadership roles, continually seeking opportunities to expand his service and perspective. He is currently serving as the Division Manager of Business Services, taking his operational perspective to dive into administrative improvements like transitioning to a digital time management system and overseeing the agency's recent Re-Accreditation with CAPRA. Gina has been with the City of Powell since 2008. What started out as a high school internship over the years has developed into her passion for serving her community through providing recreation opportunities. In 2012, Gina graduated from Wittenberg University with a degree in Education and held teaching licenses in special education k-12 and early childhood education p-3. She has been able to serve the City of Powell full time since 2014 after spending two years teaching high school students on the Autism Spectrum. Currently, Gina oversees all programs, the community garden, over two dozen contract instructors, one part-time employee and six seasonal recreation leaders, teaches her own programs, co-teaches RecSchool, and facilitates summer day camps. She has presented at the Ohio Parks & Recreation Association’s conference the past two years on the importance of summer camps and ways to continue to enhance them. Charles (Chuck) Kunsman is a part-time Swim Lesson Coordinator for Mayfield Heights. He also has his own business, primarily teaching CPO courses and Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Instructor courses. He is semi-retired after having worked for the University of Akron for 25 years helping to operate their Student Recreation and Wellness Center and Ocasek Natatorium. Over his career he has spent over 55years working in water safety as a volunteer and professional, first with the Boy Scouts, then Cleveland State University, City of Twinsburg, Cleveland Skating Club, Geauga Lake Amusement Park, University of Akron, Cuyahoga Community College, City of Avon, City of Euclid, and City of Mayfield Heights. Chuck is a volunteer member of the State of Ohio, Department of Health, Swimming Pool Rules Committee. Appointed five different times contributing to the rules for the state, representing pool operators from1990 to present. The American Red Cross has been a big part of his career. Chuck has been an instructor since 1970 and instructor trainer since 1984. Chuck helped build a network of aquatic professional in northeast Ohio (NE Ohio Aquatic Roundtable). They meet regularly at different facilities to discuss common problems and concerns. As social media evolved, he started a Facebook page for the group and expanded it to include everyone in the state. It now has over 600 participants.

When the Worthington Community Center was expanding, it was the perfect opportunity to begin that journey. Since then, Colleen has grown her career entirely within Worthington’s Parks and Recreation Department—starting in part-time customer service and working her way into leadership. Chris Matthews is the Division Director for the Nature Preserve and Natural Resources Division at Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. Chris is responsible for management, strategic planning, and operations of the Division, which incorporates Mecklenburg County’s nature preserve system, Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation and the Natural Resources Sections. The Division of Nature Preserves and Natural Resources protects, manages and interprets Mecklenburg County's properties designated as Nature Preserves. The 28 Nature Preserves protect the county's biological resources and natural areas, while providing opportunities for environmental education, nature-based programs, and outdoor recreation. The Division's staff offer more than 5,000 programs annually, perform natural resource management, maintain more than 85 miles of nature trails, over 8,000 acres, 4 nature centers and a public campground.

McAvinew, Shane Eric
Shane McAvinew has served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for Mayfield Village since 2017. Before stepping into this role, he spent over two decades with Barberton Parks and Recreation in Barberton, Ohio, where he began his career in 1994 as a lifeguard. In 1997, he was appointed Community Center Manager, and over the next 20 years, he held various positions that allowed him to develop expertise in cost recovery, marketing, program development, budgeting, and grant writing. Beyond his leadership in Mayfield Village, Shane serves as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner for Canal Fulton, Ohio. His passion for community recreation has led him to be a guest speaker at Ohio University and Kent State University, as well as a presenter at the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Annual Conference. Additionally, he provides consulting services for public recreation organizations. Shane holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Akron. He and his wife, Christine, reside in Canal Fulton, Ohio, with their children, Corban and Orion.

Her passion for parks and recreation with a purpose is contagious. Addie has worked for 20+ years in the field and continues to enjoy learning something new every day. Addie has presented at numerous state and national conferences, schools and institutes on topics such as staff appreciation, grit in the workplace, change management, marketing, programs and events as well as mental health. Addie is the Senior Recreation Supervisor for Washington Township RecPlex near Dayton, Ohio.

Wharton, David
Dave Wharton joined New Albany Parks & Recreation in November 2001. A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California in Business Communication and Marketing and his Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Sports Management. A competitive swimmer since youth, Dave was a member of both the 1988 and 1992 Olympic teams. He won a silver medal in the 400 individual medley at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Dave broke two world records: in 1987 in Brisbane, Australia for the 400 individual medley and in 1989 in Tokyo, Japan for the 200 individual medley. In 2009, Dave was inducted into the USC Hall of Fame for his honors as a Trojan Swimmer. Dave has lived in Columbus since 1993 when he became an assistant swim coach at the Ohio State University. In 1997, he accepted the position as the Aquatic Director at New Albany High School. Dave also managed Columbus Pool Management, a company that assists aquatic facilities in Central Ohio with facility and safety needs. Dave coaches the New Albany High School Varsity Swim and Dive team. He was recognized in Business First as one of the “Top 40 under 40”, a list of top advancing professionals in Central Ohio. Dave has also served as the Region IV Chairman for Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (OPRA) which is the liaison for Parks and Recreation professionals to network and advance the profession. Dave also serves on the OPRA Finance Committee.

Wildman, Andrew L.
Andy was appointed as the Executive Director of the Granville Recreation District (GRD) in May of 2010. Prior to this role, Andy worked as the Director of Barberton Parks and Recreation Department in Barberton, Ohio. Through collaboration with the Akron Area YMCA and Summa Health, Andy helped to spearhead the design and construction of a 60,000 square-foot Community Center and Senior Center. Since joining the GRD, Andy and the leadership team have constructed an award winning public recreation department, providing comprehensive public recreation services for Granville and the surrounding communities. Andy has served as President of the Granville Rotary Club, President of the Granville Arts’ Boosters, a guest lecturer for Denison University’s HESS Major, and has also been a presenter at the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association annual conference. Additionally, he has provided consulting services for public recreation organizations around Ohio. A graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration, Andy and his wife Dallas reside in Granville with their children, Andrew and Lindsay.

Wood, Tiffany
Tiffany founded Spark Impact Consulting to expand her personal impact and to equip and empower others for their greatest impact. Her goal is for Spark Impact to leave the world a better and brighter place and to help people and organizations get to where they want to go. Tiffany is certified to serve individuals and teams through the Integrative Enneagram Institute (IEQ9). Additionally, she continues to bolster her collective coaching and consulting acumen through additional training and work in the fields of education, enrollment management, marketing, leadership, coaching, project management and communications. Tiffany has also received training with additional tools including Strengths Finder, Energy Level Leadership, OKRs and more. Tiffany also brings over 15 years of experience leading organizational change, strategy, innovation. She most recently served as the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Point University. Throughout her many years at Point she led multiple departments and major initiatives. In her final role, Tiffany launched a program that increased educational access for thousands of students, supported hundreds of employers with retention and engagement, and helped activate the hearts and minds of students and those who steward their potential. Tiffany is currently serving as a Board member for A Suitcase and a Dream, Analytic Vizion Foundation, and Heatherwood Christian School. Tiffany graduated from The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) with a bachelor’s degree in Global Economics and Spanish with additional studies and concentrations in Psychology and Counseling and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Economic Development.

Woodward, Woody
Woody has been the Executive Director of OPRA for over 16 years. He serves as the OPRA lobbyist. Woody began his career as an aide in the Ohio House of Representatives and has over 30 years experience in state government advocacy in Ohio.

Yoder, Ben
Ben Yoder’s practice revolves around representation of Ohio townships and municipalities, with particular focus in the areas of general counsel, land use and zoning, and real estate litigation. Ben serves as law director for the City of Franklin, Ohio, Deerfield Township (Warren County), Ohio, and Hamilton Township (Warren County), Ohio. Moreover, as special zoning counsel to a variety of additional Southwest Ohio local governments, he is experienced in comprehensive planning, zoning code/resolution drafting, map and text amendments, planned unit developments, conditional uses, variances, code enforcement, and generalized staff consultation. Ben also represents a number of local school districts, private developers, businesses and property owners with regard to real estate taxes, development and land use disputes. He counsels these clients on ad valorem tax litigation, complex zoning-related commercial due diligence work, zoning permit approval procurement, eminent domain, administrative appeals, and injunctive and generalized litigation matters. Outside of the office, Ben is heavily involved in the Warren County, Ohio civic, charitable and leadership communities. He serves on the Board of Commissioners for the Warren County Park District and the Board of Directors for the Area Progress Council of Warren County. Ben has served on many of Warren County’s preeminent not-for-profit boards.
