Salary Range: $72,342.40 - $126,214.40 Annually
The Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation supports the Director in leading a vibrant, innovative, and growing department dedicated to enhancing quality of life through parks, facilities, programs, and events. This position provides strategic oversight of departmental operations, supervises division leaders, advances organizational goals, and ensures excellence in service delivery aligned with the City’s mission, vision, and values.
Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Deputy Director assists in planning, directing, and coordinating the work of professional and support staff; evaluating performance; and implementing policies that strengthen the department’s operational effectiveness, community impact, and fiscal stewardship. The Deputy Director serves as Acting Director in the Director’s absence.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Public Administration, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in parks and recreation or a related field, including staff supervision and budget management.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and build partnerships with community organizations, elected officials, and the public.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent the department in public forums and media settings.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Ability to work occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours to support departmental activities and community engagement.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurability under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
