Summary
This position is responsible for maintenance of facilities, equipment, parks, playgrounds, aquatic areas and trails within the Licking Park District jurisdiction; keeps areas safe and free from hazards; performs in-house construction and repair projects; assists with special event set-up and tear-down; completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education & Experience
Must be a minimum of eighteen years of age; high school graduate or equivalent; prefer minimum of five years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities; possess a valid Ohio Drivers License; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed; must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
Essential Function, Duties, and Responsibilities
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required. Correctly and safely operates power and hand tools, including but not limited to riding mowers (flail and deck), tractors with attachments, utility vehicles, heavy equipment (skid steer and backhoe), chain saws, push mowers, string trimmers, hand sprayers, leaf blowers, snowblowers, pick-up truck with and without trailer, etc. Works with and leads volunteers. Utilizes personal protective equipment as required. Follows verbal and written instructions; carries out job functions with or without supervision; reads and comprehends operating manuals and other work-related documents. Maintains park facility structures, including cleaning, painting and renovating; performs minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, vehicle and power equipment-related work; maintains grounds, including disposing of litter and animal waste, landscaping, weed control, leaf removal, mowing, string trimming, tree trimming and felling, etc.; maintains paved and natural paths and playground equipment. Installs and repairs fencing, picnic tables and signage; performs snow & ice removal and routine janitorial duties; assists with special event set-up and tear-down. Ensures safety practices on the work site; addresses and reports hazards in a safe and timely manner; meets all job safety requirements and all applicable PERRP (BWC) safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures. Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertaining to duties, attends seminars and meetings. Works assigned schedule; demonstrates regular and punctual attendance; may occasionally work on weekends and weekday evenings as required; performs all types of year-round physical labor, including working outdoors during inclement weather conditions. Provides exceptional internal and external customer service; treats co-workers and park/trail users with respect; promotes and maintains a positive and effective working relationship with co-workers, volunteers and general public; maintains personal composure and tactfully addresses situations. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Language Skills
Knowledge of the English language sufficient for verbal and written communication.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient with basic construction math, able to work with fractions and able to calculate volumes.
Reasoning Ability
Must be able to assess maintenance and safety situations, able to problem solve and able to provide appropriate recommendations.
Computer Skills
Must be able to write and respond to email, maintain an online calendar, work with productivity software, perform timekeeping, conduct equipment and project research, and other computerized record keeping as required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Ohio Drivers License; First Aid, CPR and AED Certification from American Red Cross, ANSI or American Heart Association within six-months of hire; must be willing to obtain other certifications as requested.

Mission
The mission of the Licking Park District is to acquire, manage, preserve and conserve natural areas within Licking County, while protecting wildlife and local history in a manner that enriches our communities and provides access to diverse parks, educational opportunities and health and wellness activities.
Other
The Licking Park District was established in accordance with Section 1545 of the Ohio Revised Code. The LPD is a separate political subdivision of the State of Ohio, authorized by a legislative act (Revised Code Chapter 1545) under the Conservation Section of the State of Ohio. Accordingly, the Licking Park District is not a part of any other form of government such as the County or any municipality. The Licking Park District currently employs (8) full-time staff members and (2) interns.
The Licking Park District strives to support the Licking County community by providing beautiful parks, paths, and trails, as well as many programs, special events, and educational activities for the people in our community and beyond. With funding from the levy passed in November of 2021, we will continue to improve our facilities and make repairs where they are needed. Our staff hopes to continue to make the parks an inviting place for families and people to enjoy themselves and nature.
